Kayaking Alberta Classics

One of my goals for the summer was to paddle as many of the Alberta Classics as possible while they were flowing. We managed to squeeze in Cataract, Toby, Skook, Findlay and Wigwam at good flows. Here is a collage of photos from the week!

After having my best flight ever in Pemberton BC on the most perfect day for flying, I was fired up to try the same in my home town.

Scratching low off a mid Mtn launch, I was somehow able to find a thermal to stay in until I could see 360 degrees around me…. mtns galore!!!

Rogers pass, towards Shelter bay, towards Mica, and West where then Mnts ease off, I could see for miles and miles and got really inspired for where I could fly next time with an earlier start!!!

I was above our ski hill contemplating if I had enough altitude to try for Mt Cartier. Well, I picked the right day because when I B-lined for the summit, I came out a ways above it enjoying the views of Ghost peak and across the valley where we did our ski tour a few months prior!

What next after a few good photos and the screaming barfies? (because I was so excited to fly I forgot to wear my gloves!!!) Ya, Screaming barfies in the sky…..

I decided to fly out from above the peaks across the valley towards Mt. Begbie. I had a chance to warm up and fly above houses south of Revelstoke getting wicked views of Mt Begbie on my most beautiful day of the summer!

Can’t Wait for my next flight!!!

North Kaweah Adventure

Right off the bat we encountered a large rattling rattle snake that was standing his ground and would not get off the trail!

Steep granite creeking! Just what we came to California for!!!

Guess Where?

This was my first time paddling anywhere south of Dinkey creek so we HAD to paddle the Forks of the Kern!!

With a short hike in, lots of water and a full day on the water, it was just what I was hoping for!

Wild Wild West Trail Marathon!

Driving towards my destination south of Bishop California I realized I was about to run my first marathon in the desert at altitude, and it would be about

twice as far as I had ever run before!!

Well, why put it off any longer?!

This race had some of the coolest scenery and rock formations I have ever run through!

Starting out slow, I had some energy to burn!

Top three were awarded with local pottery! (Managed 2nd woman/ 6th overall!)

At the finish line... with some of the women I was running against.

Celebrating at the ranch with the folks that encouraged me to come to this race; new friends from Calgary!

Onto a LOW impact sport to recover! I met up with Mike Fifeild to get our wings out above the ocean!!

Pacifica, south of San Fran was perfect ridge soaring to start off the season!!

First time flying over the ocean!!

Perfect for Kiting!!!

I was pretty excited to have the chance to fly on the ocean on such a perfect night. Ridge soaring in this weather is the prime way to ease into the season………..

1/2 Marathon Trail Run !!

Escape from Prison Hill 1/2 marathon at Silver Saddle Ranch….sounded like a fun race to me! Well, it was challenging, especially since my calves were still in pain from the Spokane River Race the weekend before. Ha ha ha…

It had steep hills, deep sand and very hot sun! Not really the kind of running I’m used to but a great training run for the marathon I was signed up for the weekend after!

Starting out my kayaking Road trip

I thought I’d start my trip south off with a goal of a 25 km trail running race! The Spokane River Race was on the way to my kayaking destinations. By the time I managed to pack my new road tripping mobile, and catch a late ferry south of Revelstoke, it was the wee hours of the morning before I was able to find a camp spot a hour from the Start line!

At 6 am I asked multiple people where the hills where, what they
recommended to eat on a 25km run like this and how often etc.

Trying to pass in the final 3 miles!

I asked the right people because I felt great and ran with the front women having
conversations and motivating each other.

It was a beautiful run with a few hills, mud puddles and with the flow
of the river!

Finish line!

Somehow I managed to pass 2 of them for a 2nd place in my age category
and 3rd overall Women!! One of the women I was running with was very
encouraging and inspiring and was so sweet to offer me to shower at
her friends place and “come have lunch with us” she says!

End of Season Adventure

We had a perfect weather window for a short ski trip back to town (Revelstoke) with a heli drop at Blanket Glacier.

The most appealing decent took us to a perfect camp next to the beauty of Davis Peak and…. ample firewood!

Our trip ended short due to a blistered and swollen over 2inch long
bonespur that Jeff ignored for 3 weeks while working at Durrand
Glacier………
